New Control Room

Timeline
2003

2003 After West Allis/West Milwaukee School District informs WACMC it will need its assigned space at the Franklin Field House by the 2003-2004 school year, the Board of Directors begins searching for a new home.

2003 The "Moving On Out Building Fund" is launched to raise funds to pay for the costs of moving, rental increase and operational expenses.

2003 "WACMC: In Light of Our 20th Anniversary," a 45-minute documentary chronicling the birth, challenges and success of community access television in West Allis, begins airing on Channel 14; an article entitled, "How to Make an Impact with a Live TV Auction," written by Executive Director Mary Shanahan-Spanic, is published in Community Media Review, a national publication.

2003 Past and present board members and producers honor Mary Shanahan-Spanic for 10 years of service as executive director at the 21st annual WACMC membership meeting, the last WACMC event to be held at the Franklin Field House.

2003 West Allis community access television producers are honored with a total of 18 awards, including three Excellence Awards, at the fifth annual Wisconsin Association of Public, Educational and Government Access Channels (WAPC) Video Festival, held at the Pioneer Inn Resort in Oshkosh, WI.

2003 Board of Directors chooses a site at 7210 W. Greenfield Ave. in downtown West Allis as the new home of WACMC. Facilities are designed as a two-level operation, with studio, control room, editing suite and equipment checkout area located on street level, and training/meeting room, playback area and staff offices located on lower level.

Ed Wistl of Wistl Construction of Pewaukee and owner of the building, oversees the remodeling of new community media center throughout the summer.

Ed Wistl joins forces with Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) and City of West Allis, which awards him a Façade Improvement Grant, to restore the front of the building to its original glory. The front entrance will feature four huge picture windows offering a sweeping view of passing foot and street traffic, and a spacious reception area leading into the production facilities.

WACMC volunteers pitch in to install phone, network and video cabling, and assist with moving, unpacking, cleaning, organizing and painting.

2003 Following construction of the new WACMC facilities in early October, Artscape: The Rep at 50 becomes the first program produced in the new studio. Other studio productions soon follow.

2003 West Allis Mayor Jeanette Bell cuts the ribbon on the WACMC's new home at 7210 W. Greenfield Ave. during an Open House on Thursday evening, Nov. 6. The Open House attracts scores of elected officials, business owners, WACMC board members, producers, volunteers and staff. Festivities are cablecast live over Channel 14. A new era in West Allis community television begins.
