2006 WACMC kicks off its year long 25th anniversary celebration with a “South of the Border” style celebration at its 24th Annual Membership Meeting, featuring a Mexican buffet donated by Las Palmas Restaurant. CNI Newspapers, publisher of the West Allis Star, is honored with the Community Vision Award for its weekly printing of the Channel 14 program schedule.
2006 West Allis Star publishes an article about Brian Janick, Andy Burgmeier, Ray Setzer and Erick Smith, the producing team of the comedy/variety program “INTV”; Community Now provides coverage on cable renegotiation; both the Star and Now run articles on WACMC fundraisers and producer training sessions; the Shepherd Express runs a profile on Matthew Perta, host/producer of “Artscape.”
2006 WACMC participates in the Downtown Business Improvement District of West Allis Halloween Trick or Treat Day, the Holiday Stroll and Holiday Party.
2006 WACMC serves as judging site for the Wisconsin Association of Public, Educational and Government Access Channels (WAPC) Video Festival and International Alliance for Community Media Hometown Video Awards.
2006 Volunteer producers and staff are honored with 19 awards, including three “Awards of Excellence” at the eighth annual WAPC Video Awards Festival held at the Quality Inn in Madison.
2006 West Allis Central High School student Zack Adams creates a collage of West Allis landmarks that is displayed in the lobby of the WACMC. The collage was created in honor of the City of West Allis Centennial Celebration.
2006 Volunteer producers and staff cover a variety of community events, including the Memorial Day Parade and ceremony; Rita Kohls Memorial Benefit; West Allis Players’ Much Ado About Nothing; West Allis Centennial Parade and Festival; Western Days Parade and Weekend; Fourth of July Parade; 2006 Wisconsin State Fair; West Allis Arts A’ Fair; Senior Center Autumn Open House; Breakfast of Thanks and Giving; and the Downtown Holiday Stroll.
2006 WACMC holds its first annual “Haunted Television Station Scare-A-Thon” fundraiser, complete with costume contest, games, a tarot card reader, psychic and astrologer. Both the Shepherd Express and MKE promote the event.
2006 Producers John Ash and Mark Meddaugh are honored with an Alliance for Community Media Hometown Video Festival Award for “La Cuisine du Garage: Beer Factor.” “La Cuisine” is seen in more than 30 communities across the state and nation; “Artscape” marks its fifth anniversary (and 50th show) with an interview featuring mouth painter Jeff La Dow.
2006 WACMC gives all the good boys and girls of the community a chance to talk to Santa Claus during two live “Santa Call-in” shows.
2006 Fundraising initiatives including the Polka Chicken Dinner at Tanner Paull; WAPC Video Festival; Scare-A-Thon; Children with Santa photo session and the holiday business promotion campaign raise over $6000 for the WACMC. |
