2008 WACMC Board of Directors and staff develop a pair of documents outlining fundraising strategies and goals for the organization. “Review and Report with Long-Term Recommendations to Generate Support for the West Allis Community Media Center” and “WACMC Income Action Plan” are made possible by a grant from the Nonprofit Management Fund in conjunction with Fundraising Consultant Christi Murn.
2008 WACMC is awarded a grant by the Nonprofit Management Fund, a division of the Milwaukee Foundation. The grant will focus on researching the expansion of WACMC services to surrounding communities.
2008 WACMC organizes two successful fundraising events: The fourth annual “Polka Chicken Dinner Extravaganza” held at Tanner Paull and the third annual “Channel 14 High Death Hello-O-Vision Halloween Party” held at the studio. Both events continue to be popular with Channel 14 supporters.
2008 WACMC holds its annual Youth Media Camp for West Allis students ages 12 to 17. Camp participants produce the public service announcement, “How to Register to Vote,” and the programs, “Talking Local Government with West Allis Mayor Dan Devine” and “State Fair Animals.”
2008 West Allis producers are honored with 17 awards, including three “Awards of Excellence” at the 10th annual Wisconsin Association of Public, Educational and Government Access Channels (WAPC) Video Festival held at the Radisson Inn in Appleton.
2008 John Ash and Mark Meddaugh are honored with a Hometown Video Award by the Alliance for Community Media for their program La Cuisine du Garage.
2008 Viewers Voice producer Sharon Rhode produces her 300th show, which features the unveiling of the “Bronze the Fonz Statue” on Milwaukee’s Downtown Riverwalk. Rhode has been a public access TV producer since 1989. Viewers Voice is an organization that works closely with commercial TV producers and advertisers to keep popular series on the air.
2008 Volunteer producers and staff join forces to cover a variety of community events, including West Allis “Arts a’ Fair,” West Allis Fourth of July Parade, the Wisconsin State Fair, the Chamber of Commerce’s “Forks and Corks,” the Anti-Hunger Advocates Conference, the Singing Slovenians’ Concert sponsored by the Milwaukee Federation of SMPJ Lodges, West Allis Christmas Parade, Candy Cane Lane, the “Young at Heart Christmas Concert,” the Business Improvement District’s “Holiday on the Avenue” and the popular “Live Santa Call-in Show.”
2008 The Repairers of the Breach Homeless Choir performs holiday songs on the public affairs program Portraits and Promises.
2008 WACMC volunteer producers and staff creates 200 programs throughout the year; 81 shows were produced in the studio, 119 shows were produced with WACMC digital video cameras at remote locations.
